countdown to blastoff

And so it begins...

After months of waiting and planning and arranging, I am a little over 3 weeks away from take off. I am, of course, beginning the final stages of pre-abroad excitement, nerves, and day dreams.

We just received our homestay assignments and I have already had 2 emails in response to my vague "tell me about yourself" initial contact. My host family does speak English and consists of a mother, her daughter, and another female host student from Kamerun who has already been with them for some time, as well as a brother and father who both visit the home periodically. From what my host-mom tells me, I will be close to the downtown Berlin hubs, and only a few blocks from the famous courthouse where JFK proclaimed "Ich bin ein Berliner" in his 1963 speech (I think it's adorable that she told me this fun fact in her introduction!).

My first night in Germany will be spent in a Berlin hostel called The Three Little Pigs overlooking a beer garden so I am hoping to walk around a little bit before my orientation the next day.
Things left to acquire before my flight on August 19th:

 1.  solid rain jacket/winter coat
 2.  adequate packing skills
 3.  three prong plug converter
 4.  bank account without international transaction fees
 5.  Oktoberfest tent ticket (Ser gut!)

I will be posting again once I get my feet on the ground! If you'd like to contact me and you have an iPad or iMessage (on iPhone or iTouch), you can message my iPad at jordanpwight@gmail.com (pretty fancy, I know) or we can Facetime! Otherwise, I'll only have a local phone there and internet access (Facebook, email, Skype). But most importantly, I will have an address that you can send me REAL LETTERS at, which would make me even more blissful in Berlin.

Tschüs
